What You’ll Learn
In this walkthrough, you’ll learn the basics of how to use Mainstay to text contacts in an interactive training environment. This is a beginner-level tutorial that assumes that your bot has already been set up and populated with contacts.
There are three components to sending text messages.
- Audiences: Who will get it?
- You will learn how to create an Audience, which is a set of rules that defines a group of contacts. Think of this as a dynamic list: your message will go to all contacts who meet the Audience’s criteria when the campaign is sent.
- Scripts: What will be sent?
- Scripts are interactive message flows, like a template of content for the bot to use to interact with contacts. Scripts can be as simple as a single message, or as complex and customized as you want with hundreds of heavily personalized branching paths. This tutorial will teach you how to build a multi-step interactive script.
- Tip: We recommend using our Script Library for much of your campaign planning: these are collections of ready-made, research-backed scripts that have been rigorously tested to ensure they drive the best outcomes.

- Campaigns: When will the script be texted to the audience?
- Campaigns bring audiences and scripts together, to be sent at a time of your choosing.
